Using SSD technology for the Operating System means Global Surveillance has eliminated the conventional hard drive for the Operating System. The conventional hard drive contains many moving parts. These drives are prone to a high failure rate. With dedicated SSD for the operating system, Global Surveillance systems are less likely to fail as compared to other systems without SSD technology. Additionally, since there are no moving parts there are no mechanical delays, allowing quick access times and low latency. Other advantages are: silent operation due to the lack of moving parts, low power consumption and less heat generation when in use; ability to endure extreme shock, high altitude, vibration and extremes of temperatures; consistent read performance because of physical location of data and faster random access.
